The accusations of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse against comedian Russell Brand have caused widespread revulsion but little shock this week. They have rekindled a conversation about misogyny and male entitlement that goes far beyond Brand’s orbit of entertainment and comedy. Because the comic’s alleged behaviour dates back to the Noughties, much of the analysis has focused on the lad culture of that time. But has anything really changed for women in the decades since? We asked three Irish Independent writers to share their experiences. They are shocking, heartbreaking and infuriating all at once
