I hope Jenny McNally of McNally Family Farm, she of the celestial tomatoes and the organic vegetable grower extraordinaire against whom all others must be benchmarked, will forgive me for telling this story. During the summer, I placed my usual weekly order for collection at the Naomh Olaf market in Sandyford. As someone else was going to be picking it up for me and I wouldn’t be able to see for myself what extra summer bounty might be available at the stall, I added a note asking Jenny to add in anything else that she thought I might like. From recollection, there were aubergines, green beans, chillies … and a bag of green peppers. I am not what you might call a fussy eater. I do not have dietary requirements, and there are very few things I will not eat. But green peppers are, in my opinion, an indigestible abomination.
