I was the only person from my school — the Christian Brothers in Sexton Street, Limerick — to go to UCD in 1985. I was 18. I met Emer Feely, who would become my wife, during the very first week. We were both studying medicine. When I think back, those years in UCD, getting to know Emer and falling in love with her are deeply intertwined with the academic experience. Emer was as integral to my time at UCD as anything I learned in lectures.
